Meet Abigail
As a farmer, business owner, and Iowa County Supervisor, Abigail understands the value of a hard-earned dollar—and how easily government can waste it. She’s running for State Auditor to ensure accountability and transparency to state government.
Abigail has worked directly with local budgets to identify inefficiencies and reduce waste. With experience auditing financial records for her own businesses, she’s ready to bring that hands-on fiscal responsibility to the state level.
Abigail shares Iowans’ frustration with politics-as-usual. She’s wary of special interests, partisanship, and audits that serve agendas instead of taxpayers. Abigail believes auditing should be objective and focused on honest oversight. With over 3,000 tax-levying authorities across Iowa, she knows the state needs an auditor who truly understands local government. After years of balancing budgets herself, Abigail believes the best auditor is someone who’s done the work firsthand.
Abigail is a lifelong resident of Iowa County. Today, she and her husband farm corn and soybeans full time, representing the sixth generation of the Maas family to work the land that has been in their family since 1897.
They’re proud to be raising their two children, Derek and Cora, on that same farm.
Abigail's Vision
As State Auditor, Abigail Maas’s mission is simple: protect taxpayer dollars, ensure trust in government, and bring accountability to the public checkbook.
Iowans deserve an Auditor who asks tough questions, digs into the numbers, and puts taxpayers first. With experience as a farmer, business owner, and county supervisor, Abigail will bring common sense and objectivity to state spending—uncovering waste, shining a light on inefficiencies, and ensuring every cent is spent wisely. She will view every expenditure through a taxpayer's lens and treat public dollars as if they are her own.
She’s committed to integrity and independence to the Auditor’s Office. Abigail will strengthen oversight of local budgets with stricter auditing standards and explore real-time software systems to improve recordkeeping, transparency, and consistency across local governments.
Abigail will promote transparency at every level, giving Iowans confidence their money is managed with fiscal responsibility and honest leadership. Iowans work hard for their money—their Auditor should work just as hard to protect it.
